It’s time, friends!! My closet is disorganized and this gal (oh hey, raise your hand if you’re there too) feels like she has nothing to wear. So yes, it’s time to get my ass in gear and breathe some fresh life and inspiration into said closet. In a funny way, feeling frustrated with my closet is kind of lovely and refreshing though. It means change and discovery are around the corner, and that usually extends well past my closet. While I have so much more to say about the life stuff – we’ll leave that for another day. But let me tell ya, I’m so darn excited to jump on the capsule train. I’ve been guilty of over buying / never wearing and barely able to save. Yikes! It’s definitely time to align myself with something different.
You’ve Been Doing The Capsule All Wrong. How I’m Changing My Approach.
A typical capsule usually involves 37 pieces, not including accessories, active wear, or evening wear, and stays with you for a season. Once a new season starts… you update with 4-8 pieces, pack away your previous capsule and start again. If that works for you, that’s wonderful, but I honestly felt so overwhelmed, and ultimately, felt like I had too many pieces to switch & manage. Not to mention, I don’t own 37 pieces I love.
So how am I changing my approach?! Firstly, I’m going with a much smaller capsule (14-16 pieces) and intend to take it with me from season to season. Or as much as I can. I’m including pieces I love and pieces that work well together. It’s my hope, that a smaller wardrobe will free me of the nothing to wear / must shop trigger. And since we’re on the topic of shopping?! I’m choosing to hit the pause button and quietly build my summer capsule from last years purchases + display my summer capsule at the other end of my closet. That way, I can easily see if something is missing, or needs to replaced. I’ll be sure to keep you posted!
But for now, this is very much a work in progress. Mainly though, I’m excited to learn & lean into a minimalist lifestyle! As I’ve mentioned in past posts, my husband & I have a generous income and yet we manage to burn through it every month, not always remembering what we’ve bought and not feeling particularly happier for it. Well except for my recently purchased Madewell tote! 😉 OK. Enough with the jibber jabber. Here’s what I’m including in my spring capsule wardrobe:
Jackets / Layers
- Black Midi Dress (just bought this one, it’s a dream, plus was just re-stocked)
- Madewell Jumpsuit (currently on sale & so cute)
On that note, if you have questions, let me know. I’ll either answer below, or in a future capsule Q&A post. And if you’re hopping on the capsule or mindful spring wardrobe train… then tag em’ on Instagram #GCspringcapsule so I can follow along / round up my fave looks for a blog feature! xo
