Hello, friends. Firstly you might have noticed the blog got a little facelift. Yay! Nothing makes me happier than re-arranging my home, and sprucing up my blog, plus it’s perfect timing as we enter a new season as well as my summer capsule wardrobe. But before we do, today I’m sharing what I learned from my capsule wardrobe challenge, and then later this week… I’ll be sharing my summer capsule with you too. I’m honestly so excited for the new season ahead, and can’t wait to dive in and get great content up on the blog. So with that said, let’s jump on in:
For spring, I limited my closet to 16 functional / tried & true favourites which were easy to remix, and the final result was so good. Getting dressed felt incredibly seamless, my creativity flourished (presumably because I wasn’t overwhelmed with too many options) and I actually loved my closet. I learned that adding a top knot, a pop of red lipstick or an unexpected twist like my white sneakers, made old outfits new again and I learned so much about my personal style!
My Top Capsule Wardrobe Takeaways
Why Neutrals Are Best: For me, a neutral palette was the best and most versatile choice. While a coloured and patterned dress is adorable, I feel it’s harder to make new again and a little less versatile. So for my spring capsule I chose simple colours like: beige, white, black and blue. Having said that, I plan to experiment a little more with pattern and colour for my summer capsule. I’m curious to see what that’s like, and of course, I’ll keep you posted!
Learn To Shop Your Closet: A hat, a statement necklace, a pop of red lipstick, or just pairing new items together can seriously open up a whole new world. And dare I say, shopping my closet became a whole lot funner than constantly “shopping” and falling down the I have nothing to wear rabbit hole. If you’d like to learn more… I wrote a How To Shop Your Closet post last year.
Small Closets Create Clarity: When I first started my capsule, I thought I’d feel limited by my pieces and get stuck in a style rut. But strangely, it was the complete opposite! I developed a strong & clear sense of my personal style, and couldn’t believe how many outfits and options I had. Like I said above, my creativity and remixing chops absolutely flourished, and I never felt limited or stuck.
New Found Confidence: Who knew that simple outfits, and not stressing over my closet… all, the, time… would give me a better sense of self confidence. Of course, in hindsight it makes perfect sense, but that was a lesson / takeaway I was definitely not expecting.
I Overspend On Clothes: Taking pause on my shopping revealed I spend way too much money per month on clothes, and for me, that just didn’t feel right. So as a result of my capsule wardrobe, I’ve now put myself on a $100 monthly budget, and I’ll be slashing it down to $50 for the summer season. Since I work from home, I really don’t need new outfits that often and I’m excited to use my money in other ways + wanting to start thrifting a little more too.
Well there you have it, friends. If you’ve done a capsule wardrobe too, I’d love to hear what you learned, plus I’ll see you later this week with my summer capsule reveal. Can’t wait! xo
